ATA

An Analogue Terminal Adaptor (ATA) is a device that connects traditional analogue telephones to a digital or VoIP network, allowing the phones to make and receive calls over the internet or a digital network.

Contention

Contended services are network connections where multiple users share the same bandwidth, leading to potential fluctuations in performance during peak times. Uncontended services, in contrast, offer dedicated bandwidth to a single user, ensuring consistent, stable performance without fluctuation due to other users’ activities.

ECC

Excess Construction Charges (ECCs) are additional fees charged by service providers to cover the extra costs of extending network infrastructure to a location, often due to factors like distance, terrain, or special construction needs.

IP Address

An IP Address is a unique string of numbers separated by full stops that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.

IVR

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is a technology that allows callers to navigate a phone menu and perform tasks using voice commands or keypad inputs, commonly used in automated customer service systems.

latency

Latency is the amount of time it takes for a signal to travel from the sender to the receiver and back again. The lower the latency, the faster the connection.

NOC

A NOC, or Network Operations Center, is a centralised location where support professionals monitor, manage and support a network and its associated IT infrastructure.

PBX

Private Branch Exchange. A private telephone network used within an organisation or company that allows users to communicate internally (within the organisation) and externally (with the outside world), typically using fewer external lines than there are internal extensions. It also provides features like call forwarding, voicemail, conference calling, and more.
